I ♥ Chlorella!

Chlorella-Plus-un-gran-aliado-para-terminar-el-díaI really do, I LOVE chlorella!  I have faithfully included it as a part of my daily regime for many months now, and I have noticed a big difference in how I feel.  But more than that, I know that my body is being cleansed of all the junk I do not want inside of me.  In particular, as I work on losing my extra weight and my body releases toxins that have been residing in my fat cells (YUCK!).  Onward and upward to better health and living In the Pink 😉

Detoxification is a word we hear very often these days, that is a good thing, because there are many toxic side effects of living in this modern day world!

To combat the harmful and unwanted chemicals your body picks up through the food you eat, the air you breathe, and the water you drink, it is wise to develop a proactive plan. One of the most powerful parts of this plan is detoxification of the toxins you may have already built up inside your body.

As your body moves into a healthier state then it can more effectively remove the toxins you are exposed to every day.  So how does one move into that state?  The addition of Chlorella in your diet is an excellent way to move towards that goal.

Dynamic Duo for Liver Detox and Liver Health

This dynamic duo, Liver DTX Complex and Lecithin, help to maintain normal liver function.

Help keep your liver healthy with Shaklee Liver DTX Complex

A healthy liver is essential to normal nutrient metabolism and overall health. A unique internal organ, the liver plays many crucial roles in normal metabolism, including detoxification. A healthy liver can regenerate itself and deal with a wide range of toxic substances; however, prolonged and frequent exposure to toxins may influence the level of stress on liver cells and functioning. Fortunately, supplying the body with herbal compounds that have antioxidant properties and eliminating toxins from the body by maintaining normal bile flow can help keep your liver functioning at an optimum level. Liver DTX Complex gives your liver the tender loving care it needs.

The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and is also the only organ capable of regenerating itself. For example, a heart attack can create permanent damage to the heart muscle. By contrast, heavy alcohol consumption can damage the liver, but abstaining from alcohol gives the liver a chance to repair itself. You could think of the liver as a kind of industrial processing plant for the body, performing a wide range of critical functions for physical maintenance and repair.

Let’s take a look at some of the different departmental functions of the amazing liver. Continue reading

Bee Pollen – One of Nature’s Most Perfect Foods

Who would have thought that pollen collected by busy little bees would be one of the most nutritious foods we can eat?

Many years ago the Greeks and Romans referred to natural bee pollen as “the life giving dust” or the secret “ambrosia” eaten to acquire eternal youth.

In our modern times, scientists, gerontologists and nutritionists have rediscovered the benefits of bee pollen confirming the promotion of healing on many levels. Some nutritionists state that you could live adequately on bee pollen alone (not that I would want to, but an interesting thought!). Science shows that bee pollen has natural rejuvenating powers. It can aid in beauty (especially the skin), boosts of energy, extending your life span, the fight against allergies and the relief of digestive disorders. Bee pollen bursts with easily assimilated protein and lecithin, which nourish the brain and nervous system. Pollen is also thought to protect against radiation and to have anti-cancer qualities.

Side note: A cancer specialist, Ernesto Contreras, M.D, even comments, “To my knowledge, there is no better and more complete natural nutrient than honey bee pollen.”

On a personal note: I am eating a tablespoon of bee pollen as I write this!

So lets break down some of the benefits and look at them individually. Continue reading

To Supplement or not to Supplement, that is the question!

If we lived in a perfect world, the answer would most likely be NO.  In a perfect world, our food sources and way of life would be more than adequate to take care of all our dietary and emotional needs.  Unfortunately, our modern day environment and lifestyle is so profoundly different than it was 100 years ago.  So much so, my belief supports the fact that supplementing our diet is absolutely imperative.

Over the years the quality of our food has diminished and become less nutritionally dense:

  • A decline in soil diversity and quality (and consequent decline in nutrient density of foods).  In 1948 a cup of spinach yielded 158mg of iron, today it yields 2mg of iron.  The soil cannot produce what it does not have!

The wonders of Kombucha

IMG_1255 - Version 2

The ancient Chinese discovered the health benefits of Kombucha tea more than 2,000 years ago; they called it an “immortal health elixir.”  Today, this tea has gained recognition around the world as a potent health beverage.  It is known to be effective in reducing the risks of certain health problems like preventing and fighting cancer, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases and promoting overall health.

Kombucha tea is made from the fermentation of a mixture of sweetened tea and SCOBY, which is a Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast (a.k.a. “mother” because of its ability to reproduce, or “mushroom” because of its appearance).

The benefits my research uncovered

Health Benefit #1 – Detoxifies the Body

One of the most important health benefits of Kombucha tea is that it can detoxify your body, which keeps your liver healthy.  It contains many of the enzymes and bacterial acids your body produces and/or uses to detox your system, thus reducing your pancreatic load and easing the burden on your liver. Regular consumption of Kombucha tea can help you maintain a healthy liver.

Health Benefit #2 – May Prevent and Treat Cancer

Along with Kombucha tea’s detoxifying properties, it contains a high content of glucaric acid, which recent studies have shown, can aid in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Some people have managed to fight cancer into remission by taking Continue reading

The Many Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar? Really? Vinegar is just vinegar, right? In this case… nope, very wrong.

Let me tell you why 🙂

Apple cider vinegar is rich in natural minerals, vitamins and enzymes.  It is made by fermenting apple cider in a two-step process.  First, apple juice is fermented into alcohol, and then the alcohol is fermented into vinegar. Unpasteurized apple cider vinegar contains ‘mother’ of vinegar, similar to the scoby found in kombucha.

Importantly, it should be made from organic apples and be raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized to keep the ‘mother’ intact.

The ‘mother’ in apple cider vinegar is visible as cloudy strings in the bottom of the bottle and is full of beneficial enzymes, pectin and trace minerals. Continue reading

Simple Liver Cleanse

Simple Liver Detox

Juice of half a lemon (organic if possible)

Juice of half a lime (optional)

1 drop Lemon Essential Oil

1 drop Peppermint Essential Oil

In the morning, before eating or drinking anything other than pure water, squeeze the lemon (and lime if using) into a small glass, add one drop of Lemon Essential Oil and one drop of Peppermint Essential Oil. I add a little bit of pure water and then down the hatch! Wait about 20 minutes before consuming anything else other than pure water.  Drinking filtered water free of chemicals is so important, this is the filtration system that I recommend.

Depending on how much cleansing you feel your liver needs, or how brave you are 😉 this can be repeated 20 minutes before lunch and dinner, so a total of three times daily.  However, even just once in the morning is a great place to start!

Repeat daily for 28 days. You may get hooked and never want to stop!

Lecithin, did you know…..?

Lecithin is a fat (a phospholipid) that is a necessary component of every cell in the human body. It is considered to be a keystone in the construction of all cells and prevents the hardening of cell membranes.

The health of cell membranes is critical for the absorption of nutrients out of the blood stream into the cells. If phospholipids are not present in sufficient amounts to maintain the cell membrane structure, the membrane loses its ability to protect and nourish the cell causing hardening of the membrane, which leads to malabsorption.

10 Reasons why an adequate amount of Lecithin is crucial to your health:

10 Liver Cleansing Foods…

            …and a few personal notes!

Love Your Liver

You rely on your liver for over 500 essential functions!

Your liver processes everything you eat and breathe. It produces and regulates the flow of bile, which enables you to digest and absorb fats and vitamins, as well as enzymes, hormones, immune factors, and cholesterol.  Almost everything you ingest, from the air you breathe and the food you eat to the lotions you put on our skin, is processed by your liver.  This amazing organ then removes toxins and other harmful substances from the body,  allowing the body to function without experiencing the many illnesses and other harmful side effects that these toxins can cause.

For this reason, it is crucial that individuals periodically detoxify their livers.

1. Garlic

This superfood has numerous sulphur-containing compounds that are known to activate the liver enzymes that help your body flush out toxins.  It also contains Continue reading
